This can include eating raw foods, which ensure they are as nutritious as possible. Lasting for three days or so, the water fasting diet is more than many people can handle. For those who detox often, a water fast may not be as intimidating, but for others there are options that may be more appealing.</p>

<p>The power of the mind has been well known to successful and fulfilled people for centuries. Experts of the sub conscious mind such as hypnotists have come up with ingenious ways  that bypass the conscious mind and speak directly to the sub conscious. Often hypnosis is used to help people achieve their weight loss goals. In this article I will show you how to do that without any fancy hypnotist or high fees.</p>
<p>The sub conscious mind is the most powerful force in any human being. When you first learned to drive you had to think about every single thing to keep that car driving in the way you wanted to. Gears, mirrors, indicators, steering and many other factors were constantly thought about. After a while though all of these become a habit. You repeat them so many times that your conscious mind no longer has to think about them. Your sub conscious runs you on auto pilot to carry out the manoeuvres.</p>
<p>So what does this have to do with weight loss? Well by using a concept called “auto suggestion” you can help your sub conscious mind “reprogram” yourself to stick to diets, eat healthier foods, enjoy working out (seriously) and much more.</p>
<p>The reason so many people fail to lose weight is because they program themselves for failure each and every time they try a new diet. Because of bad experiences with shoddy diet programs in the past they often tell themselves “This won’t work for me” and give up a few weeks in. Think about whenever you’ve tried to diet in the past. How long did you stick at? Probably not long enough if you’re honest with yourself.</p>
<p>The technique I am to teach you now will enable you to starve yourself of these negative thought patterns that you are constantly bombarding your sub conscious mind with. Let’s retraining yourself to be more positive about your weight loss and in turn develop a thick skin that won’t give up whenever a diet doesn’t show instant and massive results.</p>
<p>Your emotions and thoughts are like signals. Whenever you feel bad about weight loss or dieting and have thoughts such as “I’m always going to be overweight” stop what you’re doing and follow these steps.</p>
<p>Step One. Think about what it is that makes you feel you’ll always be overweight. You’ll get an image come into your mind. Maybe it’s of you feeling down about a diet or you in the future and you haven’t lost any weight.</p>
<p>Step Two. Pay attention to this image. This is your unconscious telling you what thought is holding you back in your quest for dieting. This is the image that you consistently put into your sub conscious. You have programmed yourself to think this way and that’s why it is so easy to give up on diets when things get a little tough</p>
<p>Step Three. Drain all the colour out of the image. Shrink it and move it into the distance. If it happens to reappear repeat the proc ess. Drain it, shrink it and put it into the distance.</p>
<p>Step Four. Replace the image with an image of what you really want to be like. Fit, healthy and at your perfect weight. Get emotionally involved with the image. Think of how great it would feel to have lost all the weight you want to. Make it full colour and bring it closer to you.</p>
<p>Step Five. Hold your thumb and middle fingers together when you feel that rush of excitement about the new future you.</p>
<p>Whilst this may all sound a little crazy this a very cool technique for programming your sub conscious. If you do this every time you feel a little down about weight loss or have any negative thoughts soon it will become a habit.</p>
<p>Eventually you will have created “a mind anchor” so that you can press your thumb and middle fingers together and get the rush of excitement about your new, slim self. Any time you feel negative about weight loss you put your fingers together and your sub conscious will recognise this habit and use it to your advantage.</p>
<p>Ok. I do understand that this may seem a little “out there” but this is based on the science of Neuro Linguisitc Programming. This is not some pie in the sky idea thought up by a lunatic. It is based on the science of the mind and it works in reprogramming yourself. Give it a go and stick at it!</p>
<p><strong>Loving Yourself Without Weight Loss</strong></p>
<p>Being overweight is something that many of us suffer from. You are not alone. Whether you have a little bit of puppy fat or physically obese both your body and mind are affected.</p>
<p>Whilst losing weight is something that should be done from a health point of view often people want to lose weight because it will help their self esteem. The thing that most don’t understand is that your self esteem comes from what you think about yourself, not what others think.</p>
<p>In every day life we are greeted with pictures of stick thin models and gorgeous glamorous actors and actresses. This can make us feel inadequate and unattractive. We often find ourselves delighted when we see in magazines pictures of stars without make up and think to yourself “wow, she looks bad without her slap on just like I do!”</p>
<p>In this article I am going to walk you through a simple technique you can use to make yourself feel much more attractive and confident as a person. Whilst it does not take away the fact that being overweight is unhealthy it can help you to feel more comfortable in your body.</p>
<p>I want you to go and stand in front of mirror. What you are going to do is reprogram your mind to associate your reflection with positive feelings. Very soon you will be able to stand in front of the mirror and feel great rather than feeling down about your appearance.</p>
<p>I want you to think back to a time when you felt really good about yourself. It doesn’t have to be about the way you look. It might have been a job you did well, a compleiment you received. Anything which gives you that self satisfying glow in your stomach.</p>
<p>Close your eyes and think of that moment. Really remember just how proud of yourself you felt. Remember that inner confidence. If it was from a compliment someone paid you remember their sincerity. Feel that glow and move it up from your stomach to your eyes. Feel the glow behind your closed eyes and smike to yourself remembering that moment.</p>
<p>When you start to feel as strongly as possible open your eyes. See yourself as other people would have seen you when you had done that great job or got that great compliment. See yourself with respect and admiration. Keep smiling at yourself and notice the confidence in your eyes.</p>
<p>When you really feel great squeeze together your thumb and forefinger. This will create an emotional connection between the way you feel at that moment and your reflection.</p>
<p>I want you to practice this every day for a month. Every single day. It takes a matter of minutes and doesn’t cost you a penny. Over a period of time you will start to notice a dramatic change in yourself. You will notice that you have more confidence when you look in the mirror. Your self esteem will grow and very quickly you’ll not worry about your weight as much as you have done before.</p>
<p>It is very important you understand that this technique is not to replace your diet program. This is merely a way for you to start to feel better about yourself. As I have said often people want to desperately lose weight because it will make them feel more confident. By using this technique you can become more confident in the way you look within one month. Couple this with a diet program that works and your results will be both visible and internal resulting in a new, improved you.</p>
<p>Feeling down and depressed about yourself can result in comfort eating. This, of course, can only end up with you putting on more weight and the vicious circle continues. Use this technique to develop the right mental toughness and attitude. And use your dieting to get into great shape.</p>

<p>No matter if it&#8217;s Atkins, South Beach or some other low-carb<br />
plan, there are approximately 30 million Americans are on a<br />
low-carb diet. </p>
<p>Supporters contend that the large amount of carbohydrates in our<br />
diet has led to increased problems with obesity, diabetes, and<br />
other health situations. On the other hand, some attribute<br />
obesity and related health problems to over eating of calories<br />
and lack of physical activity. They also express concern that<br />
without grains, fruits, and vegetables in low-carbohydrate diets<br />
may lead to deficiencies of some key nutrients, including<br />
vitamin C, fiber, folic acid, and many minerals. </p>
<p>It is already known that any diet, whether high or low in<br />
carbohydrates, can produce meaningful weight loss during the<br />
early stages of the diet. Keep in mind, the key to a diet being<br />
successful is in being able to lose the weight on a permanent<br />
basis.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s see if we can expose some of the mystery about low-carb<br />
diets. Following, is a listing of some related points taken from<br />
recent studies and scientific literature. </p>
<p>Point 1 &#8211; Some Differences Between Low-Carb Diets </p>
<p>There are many famous diets created to lower carbohydrate<br />
consumption. Lowering total carbohydrates in the diet means that<br />
protein and fat will take up a proportionately greater amount of<br />
the total caloric intake. </p>
<p>Low carbohydrate diet like the Atkins Diet restrict carbohydrate<br />
to a point where the body becomes ketogenic (a high-fat,<br />
low-carbohydrate diet that includes normal amounts of protein).<br />
Other low-carb diets like the Zone and Life Without Bread are<br />
less confined. Some, like Sugar Busters announce only to<br />
eliminate sugars and foods that elevate blood sugar levels<br />
excessively. </p>
<p>Point 2 &#8211; What We Know about Low-Carb Diets </p>
<p>+Close to all of the studies to date have been small with a<br />
diversity of research objectives. Carbohydrate, caloric intake,<br />
diet duration and participant characteristics are wide-ranged<br />

none of the research studies had people in the study with a<br />
average age over 53 and none of the controlled studies lasted<br />

no short-term bad effects have been found with cholesterol,<br />
glucose, insulin and blood-pressure levels among the people in<br />
the study on the diets. Because of the short period of the<br />
studies the adverse effects may not show up. Losing weight<br />
typically leads to improvement in these levels, and this may<br />
offset an increase caused by a high fat diet. The over-all<br />
weight changes for low-carb and other types of diets are<br />
similar. </p>
<p>+Most low-carb diets can cause ketosis. Nausea, vomiting,<br />
abdominal pain, and confusion are some of the potential<br />
consequences. When first starting a low-carb diet some fatigue<br />
and constipation may be met and these symptoms usually disappear<br />
quickly. </p>
<p>+Some report that you can have more calories when on a low-carb<br />
diet. Remember a calorie is a calorie no matter what you intake.<br />
When the study is not closely supervised variations will result<br />
by people cheating in the study on many factors of the study.</p>
<p>There are three important factors I would like to re-emphasize: </p>
<p>1.- The over-all success rate for low-carb and other types of<br />
diets are similar. </p>
<p>2.- Small amount of information exists on the long-term efficacy<br />
and safety of low-carb diets despite their huge popularity,</p>
<p>3.- Dieters usually experience boredom with a strict version of<br />
the low-carb diet and are not able to stay on diets of low carb<br />
food.</p>
<p>After observing the subject, a more severe and controlled study<br />
are needed on a long-range basis. The ketosis produced is<br />
abnormal and stressful metabolic state. The results may cause<br />
more problems than it solved.</p>
<p>By picking a reliable diet you will benefit over a lifetime of<br />
proper eating and not a weight loss quickie. An excellent rule<br />
of thumb is look at the diet long-range and see if you can see<br />
yourself still on that diet after a couple of weeks. However, by<br />

This do-it-yourself diet claims that you can lose up to 10 pounds within a week. While that may be true, nutritional experts have pointed out that the weight loss is mainly due to water loss and not fat. They noted that it is quite impossible to lose  that much fat within a week. Another point to note is that the loss of weight from this diet is temporary and hence you will probably gain back your weight soon after that. </p>

Another point to note is that the original Cabbage Soup Diet tastes bland, hence many recipes for this diet has high salt content to make it palatable. For people who are not able to take such high sodium content, they should stay away from this diet. Dieters should should realise that there is practically no protein from this diet. As a result, people have reported feeling weak and light-headed during the course of the diet. One common reported side effect that result from the diet is flatulence. Hence, you should be prepared should you take up this diet. Of course, it is always advisable for you to consult your doctor before following this diet.</p>

The fact is that Cabbage Soup Diet, although is a low-fat and high-fiber diet, is not a nutritionally balanced plan nor can it bring about permanent weight loss. With the emphasis on cabbage as a main ingredient, the diet lacks certain important vitamins and minerals. To follow this diet, you must also be prepared for the monotonous meals. </p>

Personally I believe that this diet can be counter productive. Since the diet would force your body to go into slower metabolism, it would then encourage your body to hold on to your fat reserves. In the end, you may only be delaying your weight loss plan.</p>

<p>All of you who are reading this article right now have definitely been on a diet at some point or the other of your lives. The battle of the bulge is an ongoing problem and we are always on the lookout for various means to win this war.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Along with exercise, our diet and nutrition also plays an important role in reducing our weight. Hence, this obsession persists in all of us to undertake some form of dieting. But going on a diet is definitely not an easy thing. What to eat and what to stay away from is always a perennial problem.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>One of my friends told me that she ate the normal menu which she cooked for the family, but her weight loss recipe is &#8220;portion control.&#8221; This is a really simple diet plan. In this plan, you cut down on the portion of food you consume. For example, if you usually have two pieces of toast for breakfast, you should eat only one piece. If you normally eat two cups of rice for lunch, cut it down to one cup. In this way, you are automatically reducing your calorie intake by half.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Another popular method of dieting is to stop all intake of fatty foods and sugar. In this diet, you cut down on your oil, butter and ghee intake which automatically reduces your fat deposits.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>While I was leafing through a magazine, I read about one of our Hollywood celebrities following the Atkins&#8217; diet. This immediately aroused my curiosity about the diet. Though I have heard about the diet many times, I had no inside knowledge about it. So, I immediately set to work on it and found out certain basic facts&#8217; about the Atkins diet which I want to share with my readers.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The Atkins&#8217; diet made its first appearance in 1972 and was invented by its namesake, Dr Atkins. According to him, this method enables us to lose weight by inducing a change in metabolism. Our body burns both fat and carbohydrates to provide energy. If we reduce the intake of carbohydrates significantly, our body starts burning only fat to provide energy. This method is called &#8220;lipolysis&#8221;, which in turn induces ketosis. In ketosis, our body burns fat as fuel. Atkins also felt that ketosis will affect insulin production which will result in less fat being formed. And, once your body enters ketosis, your cravings for carbohydrates will reduce significantly which, in turn, will reduce your body weight.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The major difference between Atkins&#8217; diet and other types of diet is that, while most diets restrict calorie, intake, the Atkins&#8217; plan encourages us to eat more. While most of the diets recommend low fat, high carbohydrate intake, Atkins&#8217; does just the opposite. Instead of carbohydrate and sugar, this diet wants us to consume plenty of fat and protein.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The core principle of the Atkins&#8217; diet is that, by limiting carbohydrates, our body is forced to burn its stored fat, rather than carbs for fuel.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The Atkins&#8217; diet has a four carbohydrates stage plan induction, ongoing weight loss, pre-maintenance and lifetime maintenance. With the help of these four stages, you can reduce as well as maintain your weight throughout your life.</p>
<p><b>Induction &#8211; phase 1:</b> This phase lasts for two weeks, by the end of which you can obtain significant results. Another point is that, in this diet plan you can begin at any of the phase. But it is recommended to start with induction. As you cut back on your carbohydrates significantly in this phase, you will jump start your weight loss programme. In this phase, only 20 gm of carbohydrates are allowed and hence your weight loss is significant. As you drastically cut down on carbohydrates your body shifts into high gear and starts burning fat. This takes about 48 hours to occur and you may feel hungry and irritated for the first three-four days. But don&#8217;t worry, as soon as your fat starts getting converted to fuel, you will feel fit as a fiddle. Induction will strengthen your immune system and also improve our long-term health.</p>
<p><b>Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) phase 2:</b> In this phase, the weight loss pace slows down as you add nutrient-rich carbohydrates to your diet. During this period, you will boost your body&#8217;s ability to burn fats as well as understand your body better. You will find the right amount of carbohydrates which you can consume and still lose weight. Your body will also prepare itself for permanent weight management. The amount of carbohydrates which you can eat is increased to 25 gm per day for the first week and increased in five gm instalment for the next few weeks. If your weight loss is significant, you can increase your carbohydrate intake. A person has to be on OWL till he or she is within three-five kg of their goal weight.</p>
<p><b>Pre-maintenance &#8211; (phase 3):</b> Pre-maintenance is a practice run for lifetime maintenance. In this phase, you are fast approaching your target. As long as you continue to lose weight, you can increase your weekly allotment of carbohydrates by another 10 gm. You will be in this phase till you reach your goal and stay on it for one month. The ultimate goal here is to achieve a state of balance called Atkins&#8217; Carbohydrate Equilibrium (ACE). The ACE is your individual level of carbohydrate intake wherein you neither gain nor lose weight.</p>
<p><b>Lifetime maintenance phase 4:</b> In this phase, you have to focus on your individual ACE and strive to stay within two kg of your ideal weight for the rest of your life. By following a sensible eating plan, you gain energy, better health and confidence in yourself.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>By following these four phases, you not only achieve your dream weight but are also able to maintain it throughout your life. You can learn more about this diet by reading the book, Dr Atkins&#8217; New Diet Revolution. But, as with any other diet, this plan also has its pros and cons. The good point is that this diet recommends exercise as a vital part of the weight loss programme. Another point to be noted is that you cannot start on carbohydrates after you lose weight as this will result in your gaining back all that you have lost.</p>

<p>Medical experts advise that people who have gout, kidney problems, diabetes or are pregnant women should not follow this diet plan. As this diet is very stringent, do consult your doctor/dietician for proper advice.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Your dietician will provide you with a proper menu chart as to what should be eaten, in what quantities, etc, based on your eating habits and general lifestyle.</p>

<p>One of the new diet programs that are being introduced in the market right now is the detox diet. The name &#8216;detox&#8217; is a shortened form of the word &#8216;detoxification&#8217;, which lies at the heart of the program. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
The diet makes use of the body&#8217;s natural system of neutralizing and eliminating the various toxins that the body takes in. As an internal protective system, the body converts any material that may seem harmful to the body into a chemical form that is less dangerous. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Toxins can take several forms depending on what is taken into the body. Examples of harmful toxins are external chemicals like pesticides and household cleaners that are accidentally ingested; food additives, drugs and other food materials that may affect the body in a bad way; and of course cigarettes. Some toxins come from the body such as ammonia, a chemical produced when proteins are broken down during digestion. Because of the ingrained system, all these toxins no longer stay in the body and are excreted and flushed out in the form of stools or urine. </p>

Basically, the term detox diet is used in the treatment of people who have become dependent on drugs and alcohol; but now with the birth of various kinds of diets, the term is used to any diet that helps in detoxifying the body.   </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
The diet itself focuses on taking in foods that provide vitamins, nutrients and other chemicals such as anti-oxidants that help the body purify itself. There is also much emphasis on lessening or reducing the chemicals that are being taken inside the body. This is why many people under detox diet prefer to eat organic food. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Another technique with the detox diet is the emphasis on high fibers and water to help the body get rid of the toxins. People undergoing detox diet will experience headache during the first few days. Some may also suffer from excessive diarrhea so it is important to watch out for dehydration. There is also a risk if constipation if not enough water is taken in. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Detox diet however is not for people who have anemia, diabetes and heart disease. It is also not recommended for women who are pregnant or those people who are suffering from kidney problems, liver disease, underweight issues and ulcer. People with low blood pressure, low immunity, hypothyroidism and epilepsy are also discouraged to go under a detox diet.  </p>

From the name itself, the cabbage soup diet is a program that involves the cabbage soup as the central figure. It may seem absurd at first and quite different from other diet programs such as the Atkins diet and the South Beach diet but it actually has a rationale. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
The cabbage soup diet is based on the assumption that diets that contain high fiber but low in fat can help the body lose weight. The cabbage soup is usually made of cabbage, onions and tomatoes. The soup is supposed to fat-burning as it has a high fiber content. In fact, the more soup that you take in each day, the more calories you will burn and the more pounds you will lose. The taste will be bland so it has to be taken in with other foods. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Unlike other diet programs, there are no restrictions in the food that you take in as long as you drink the cabbage soup with every meal. From low calorie vegetables to potatoes and beef, you can eat anything you want. Of course, dieters under the program are encouraged to take in fruits and vegetables as well as unsweetened fruit juices. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
One guideline, however, that must be strictly met is the fact that all meals should be broiled, baked or boiled. No fried meals for the duration of the diet. Another guideline is to avoid alcohol, bread and other carbonated drinks that hastens weight gain. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
One downside to the cabbage soup diet is the fact that it not for the long term. It can only be done for a period of seven days. By the end of the week, the person can lose as much as 15 pounds depending of course on the meal that he or she has eaten during the program and how much you have adhered to the guidelines. Beyond the prescribed week, continuing the program can be dangerous to one&#8217;s health as too much weight will already be lost. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Because of this, dieters often use the cabbage soup diet if they need to lose weight fast. In fact, most people use the program to get into shape before they enroll in a long term diet program. Some get into the cabbage soup diet program when they need to lose extra pounds for a special occasion.</p>

<p>One of the pioneers of the diet revolution in the early part of 2000 is the Atkins Diet, a program created by cardiologist Dr. Robert Atkins for the patients of his private clinic. Because it is so very effective, the diet program has since evolved to include famous celebrities as part of its millions of followers. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
The diet program is actually based on the book that Atkins published in 1999. Aptly titled, &#8220;Dr. Atkins&#8217; Diet Revolution, the book created a world-wide sensation with people taking in pros and cons position. Despite the opinions of his critics, the book became an overnight hit in bookstores nationwide. In fact, Dr. Atkins&#8217; Diet Revolution topped the New York Times Bestsellers list, which is perhaps the most prestigious bestsellers book list in the country. What is more, it has stayed in the list for seven years. Truly a great fit for a diet book.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Atkins&#8217; Diet Revolution is made up of seven chapters. It explains the basics of the diet program. It also contains tips on leading a healthy lifestyle in the 21st century as well as different recipes that dieters can whip up at home. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
One of the advantages of the Atkins diet program is the fact that people are allowed to choose the food that they will eat and to prepare their meals themselves. This is less expensive than having foods delivered to you. Being able to choose the food that you will eat increases the will and commitment to stay into the program. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
The diet is based on the rationale that taking in less carbohydrates in meals can help in the reduction of weight. This is because the water content in the body is flushed off when the body uses it as an alternative source of energy. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
The same goes with the fat cells, which are temporarily used for energy in lieu of the missing carbohydrates. As you well know, both fats and carbohydrates are potential sources of energy. The body just prefers the carbohydrates as it can easily be burned as opposed to fats, which has a really complex structure. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Another advantage of the Atkins program is the fact that it is a very good diet for people with diabetes and a whole lot more. In fact, according to many dieticians, the Atkins Diet is the only diet that can prevent the incidence of high blood pressure and high cholesterol as well as obesity, which are all precursors of  the Type 2 form of diabetes.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Zone Diet &#8211; Developed by Dr. Barry Sears, a researcher at the Boston University School of Medicine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the zone diet is a diet plan that focuses on the ideal state of the body and the mind. This is a state of mind where the body will feel refreshed and at its peak of energy and performance. The term zone was borrowed from what athletes would often call the zone peak of performance wherein they achieve their bodies&#8217; optimal degree of performance.  </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Dr. Sears, who has studied lipids and its role in the development of chronic diseases in then body, conceptualized the diet after the death of his father due to a heart attack in 1970. But the concept was still raw, not until 1982 when Nobel Prize jury gave a research grant to the study of the relationship of hormones called eicosanoids and the development of certain set of diseases that include diabetes, heart problem and even cancer.  </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
In 1995, the doctor completed his research and compiled it in a book entitled, &#8220;Enter The Zone.&#8221; It became an international bestseller, topping lists worldwide. To date, it has sold more than four million copies. The book was so successful that Dr. Sears published 10 more books about the subject.  </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Despite this, critics still point out that the theory has not much merit as there are no scientific evidence about it. Although the zone diet is indeed effective in reducing the pounds. Some in fact continue to lose 1.5 pounds every week. There have even been people who have not lost any pounds with other diets but have lost with the zone diet. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
The diet encourages the consumption of grilled meats, a lot of fruits and of course veggies. People who are under the program will have some meals that are composed of one slice of meat and two-thirds fruits and veggies. The diet is primarily composed of 40 percent carbohydrate, 30 percent protein and 30 percent fats in the form of monosaturated fats such as those found in fruits such as avocado, guacamole and macadamia nuts. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Carbohydrates are taken in through fruits, veggies and whole grains. Sometimes pasta, rice and breads are permitted but only small portions. The protein on the other hand are taken in through lean cuts of meat and poultry such as chicken and turkey. Fishes may also be eaten as well as soy products.</p>

<p>&#13;Just like the dust and crud that accumulates in your house calls for a yearly house-cleaning &#8211; &#8220;toxins&#8221;, extra weight and God knows what accumulate in your body.</p>
<p>&#13;We all need to do a regular house-cleaning &#8211; and that means allowing your body a chance to heal itself, release the extra weight, release its toxins, and get a fresh new start.</p>
<p>&#13;Your body has an amazing self-healing mechanism built right in it, but in order to let it work, you have to give it the rest it needs.</p>
<p>&#13;That&#8217;s why fasting has been a tradition part of many world&#8217;s religions, and almost every alternative health practice recommends some kind of fasting or &#8220;detox diet&#8221;.</p>
<p>&#13;What Is a Detox Diet?</p>
<p>&#13;A &#8220;detox diet&#8221; has nothing to do with going to a rehab clinic for drug abuse. The word &#8220;detox&#8221; has been used in naturopathic circles in the sense of &#8220;removing toxins.&#8221; A detox diet allows your body to clean itself of accumulated toxins, stress, and helps it release extra fat and weight.</p>
<p>&#13;A detox diet is a restricted diet that you follow, often combined with an exercise program, for a few days or a few weeks (or even longer). It&#8217;s sort of like fasting, but it&#8217;s easier to do and you can do it at home when you need it.</p>
<p>&#13;Signs You Need to Detox</p>
<p>&#13;You should be able to know yourself when you need to go on a detox diet. If you&#8217;re looking at yourself in the mirror and don&#8217;t like what you see, you don&#8217;t like the extra weight you&#8217;ve been carrying around&#8230; then a detox diet can help you get back on track with a healthy diet and release the extra fat..</p>
<p>&#13;If you feel you don&#8217;t have the energy you once had, or you&#8217;re starting to feel a little depressed&#8230; a detox diet can help you regain that energy and bring a new level of joy to your life.</p>
<p>&#13;If you experience aches and pains, or headaches, and can&#8217;t keep up with the stress of modern life, then it&#8217;s very likely that a detox diet can help you feel young again, and give you the feeling that &#8220;nothing can stop you&#8221;.</p>
<p>&#13;From having helped thousands of people go through all sorts of detox diets, I know that the rejuvenation it brings and the sense of accomplishment, on top of all the health results, is well worth the discipline it requires to do it.</p>
<p>&#13;Example of a Detox Diet</p>
<p>&#13;There&#8217;s all sorts of detox diets you can choose from. One of my all-time favorites is the Apple Diet. This involves eating only apples for breakfast, lunch and dinner, for one or several days.</p>
<p>&#13;The good thing about apples is that they are easy to eat, they are low in sugar, and they contain a fiber that literally acts as a &#8220;broom&#8221; in your intestines.</p>
<p>&#13;When you go on an Apple Diet, all you have to do is purchase the best organic apples you can find, and eat as many as you&#8217;d like 3 or 4 times a day.</p>
<p>&#13;Here&#8217;s a few tips to make this work:</p>
<p>&#13;- If you&#8217;ve never done this before, only plan to go for the Apple Diet for a maximum of 3-4 days.</p>
<p>&#13;- Peel your apples beforehand. Even though the peel contains essential nutrients, it&#8217;s also impossible to digest in most cases. Since you&#8217;re going to be eating lots of apple, you don&#8217;t want to stress your digestion with too much fiber.</p>
<p>&#13;- Don&#8217;t drink apple juice &#8211; even if it&#8217;s freshly-pressed. That would be too much sugar, even if it&#8217;s natural. You want the natural sugar along with all of the vitamins, minerals and fiber in the *whole* apple.</p>
<p>&#13;- Also drink water, about one liter a day, to help eliminate the toxins.</p>
<p>&#13;- Instead of eating apples all day long, have 3-4 meals a day with 1-2 pounds of apples.</p>
<p>&#13;I recommend the Apple Diet over any other type of &#8220;mono-cleanse&#8221;, because the apple is the King of Fruits!</p>
<p>&#13;Other popular cleanses that I don&#8217;t recommend include the Orange Juice Fast, the Lemon Cleanse, or the Grapefruit Diet. The problem with those detox diets is that the level of acidity from these citrus fruits is too high. It can cause many problems with your gums and overall health, and many unnecessary discomforts.</p>
<p>&#13;That&#8217;s why low-acidity apples are a good choice to do a raw food detox diet.</p>
<p>&#13;Get Support and Motivation</p>
<p>&#13;Although the concept of a detox diet is simple, most people have a hard time implementing it because of lack of motivation.</p>
<p>&#13;It&#8217;s not complicated to eat only apples for 3 days, but it&#8217;s not easy either. On the first day, you&#8217;ll be craving your normal fare. By the second day, you&#8217;ll be dreaming about food. But if you stick around, after a few days, you&#8217;ll be experiencing the incredible &#8220;high&#8221;, energy and lightness of beings that fasters experience &#8211; and the results will show.</p>
<p>&#13;You&#8217;ll start to release weight, your hunger for natural foods will come back, you&#8217;ll have energy to start an exercise program, you&#8217;ll feel better than ever&#8230; and when you&#8217;re ready to introduce other foods into your diet, you&#8217;ll be more likely to make the right choices.</p>
<p>&#13;But to get to that point, make sure you get enough support and motivation. Find someone who can help you do a detox diet with you, and get as much information and support as you can to succeed on your cleanse.</p>
<p>&#13;Learn to use the power of DETOX in your life&#8230; and you&#8217;ll start to regain the health and energy that is your birthright.</p>

The more diets published in magazines and on the Internet, the more people are confused about what dieting really means and about the right way of bringing your body back in shape. </p>
<p> The growing number of overweight people has turned weight loss into an industry like never before and the market is growing every year. It seems that nowadays all one needs is a fashionable idea and a flair for marketing in order to make a lot of money or garner a lot of popularity by proposing some sort of weird diet, despite the lack of professional expertise in this field.</p>
<p> 1. Atkins Diet</p>
<p> Pretty much everybody’s head of the Atkins diet, largely due to the flood of articles praising the extraordinary results, not to mention the loads of good mail from satisfied customers. Starchy vegetables, whole grains and beans are banned, although these foods are not in conflict with the principles of the diet. The American Heart Association says the Zone diet lacks essential nutrients while promoting high-protein foods.</p>
<p> 3. Jenny Craig Diet </p>
<p> One of the longest running diets, Jenny Craig started this business in the early 1980s and it’s still around. The basic idea of this diet is a trade off: you don’t have to choose recipes, do the shopping and the cooking, but you have to buy the Jenny Craig prepackaged food. And that runs to some $100 per week. Plus the membership costs. Plus the vegetables and fruits which are not included in the prepackaged food. If you can afford it and if you can stick to it, the diet is pretty good. </p>
<p> However, similar low-calorie foods can be bought at the grocery store and you don’t have to discuss this with a Jenny Craig expert that insists on your eating the prepackaged food because he gets a percentage of the sale price.</p>
<p> 4. South Beach Diet </p>
<p> This one has the right idea and wrong approach combination down pat. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of people have managed to lose weight with this diet and it actually works. But the question is: can you really stick to it? </p>
<p> The first phase of the diet will eliminate most foods containing carbohydrates from your daily consumption. Fortunately, this phase lasts two weeks. Unfortunately, second phase focuses on a half-hearted return of whole grains and fruits and lasts… as long as necessary. If reaching the desired weight takes you one year, then that’s exactly how long this phase is going to last. And if you don’t like the foods allowed by this diet then you’re out of luck. </p>
<p> 5. Weight Watchers </p>
<p> This is actually one of the best diets around because it puts all the management tools in the hands of the user. If you are really committed to losing weight, you have all the information you need to do it. </p>
<p> And a lot of people who are going through the same thing are going to be there to help you. If having company during difficult times helps your willpower, then you are probably going to lose all that extra weight. If, on the other hand, you don’t like the idea of being constantly under peer pressure, then this diet is not for you.</p>

<p>Ege Üniversitesi (EÜ) Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi Dekan Yardımcısı Prof. Dr. Nurselen Toygar, AA muhabirine yaptığı açıklamada, birçok rahatsızlığın ana nedeni olarak bilinen stresin çeneye ve dişlere de zarar verdiğini anlattı.</p>
<p>Prof. Dr. Toygar, stresli gün geçiren kişinin uyurken bilinçsizce dişlerini sıktığını, bunun da hem dişlere hem de vücudunun diğer bölgelerine zarar verdiğini ifade etti.</p>
<p>Birçok kişide stresin yöneldiği ilk yerin çiğneme kasları olduğunu, gün içerisinde çenenin sıkılabildiğini ancak bu durumun gece uykuda daha sık yaşandığını anlatan Toygar, şöyle konuştu:</p>
<p>&#8220;Derin uykuya dalma sırasında, duyuların iletildiği beyin bölgesine stres ne kadar yoğun iletilirse çiğneme kaslarının o oranda sıkımı güçleşir ve kişi farkında olmadan dişlerini gıcırdatmaya, sıkmaya başlar. Kişi ancak uyandığında çenesindeki ağrıdan bunu fark edebilir. Diş sıkma, çocukluk çağında başlar, erişkinlikte artar. Yaşanan stres nedeniyle de devam eder. <p>Diş sıkmanın önüne geçebilmenin en etkin yolunun &#8220;stresten uzak durmak&#8221; olduğunun altını çizen Toygar, günde iki kez 20 şer dakika çene eklemine, triger denilen tetik noktasına sıcak havluyla masaj yapılabileceğini, gülerken, esnerken ağız açıklığının kontrol edilmesi gerektiğini dile getirerek, &#8220;Şeker ve kafein tüketiminden uzak durulmalı. <p>The Zone Diet is all about balance.  Nothing is eliminated from the diet.  Carbohydrates are enjoyed as are proteins and fats. The thing is they are the right proportion to each other and calories do matter in The Zone Diet. </p>
<p>&#13;The Zone Diet was invented by Dr. Sears.  There is a website on The Zone Diet which explains the principles of this way of eating. They explain that The Zone Diet is not actually a diet but rather it should be a lifestyle.  The key to the Zone Diet is getting the right proportions of fat, protein and carbohydrate into your diet.  They promote that your diet consists of 40% carbohydrate, 30% fat and 30% protein. They do not prohibit any foods. </p>
<p>&#13;When you read about The Zone Diet you can not help but notice the common sense approach of this diet.  When people go on low carbohydrate diets such as The Atkins Diet they often complain of fatigue.  They are encouraged to eat as much fat and protein as they want to at the beginning.  Dr. Atkins believed that this would undo what had been done psychologically by having constantly deprived yourself of much needed fats.  He believed that fats were an important part of a diet and once people rejected the idea that fats were bad for you, they would enjoy fats again and eventually the body would take care of regulating how much you actually needed. </p>
<p>&#13;People soon found out as they ate as much steak and chicken skin as they wanted to that they had no energy to even climb a flight of stairs let alone try to exercise.  As The Atkins Diet swept the nation, many newspaper articles began to surface on how The Atkins Diet was the perfect diet for sedentary couch potatoes.  But for people who wanted to begin exercising and living a healthier lifestyle, it did not appear to be a smart choice. In contrast, people on The Zone Diet claim to have a lot of energy because they are eating in a sensible well balanced way right from the start.  </p>
<p>&#13;The Zone Diet also puts an emphasis on a sensible old fashioned concept: counting calories.  Many of the new fad diets of the eighties and nineties continued along the path of Dr. Atkins and promoted forgetting all about calories.  Their claim was that counting calories made people begin to obsess about food.  Many diets encouraged the idea that when eating well, the body will regulate appetite and the dieter will naturally be eating the right amounts especially since the idea of deprivation has been taken away.  </p>
<p>&#13;The fact is that this approach has not worked for many people.  Many people continue to overeat and simply don&#8217;t lose any weight.  The Zone Diet has re-introduced common sense.  Dr. Sears states that to achieve hormonal balance it is important to eat the right foods in the right proportion but also in the right quantity.  His diet encourages eating snacks but the total daily caloric intake must be kept under a certain number. The Zone Diet spells out that to &#8220;stay in the zone&#8221; each meal must consist of 500 calories or less and each snack must be under 100 calories.  </p>
<p>&#13;For people who have not had success with the latest diets and eating fads, it might be worthwhile to try a new fad which actually brings back age old tried and true concepts.</p>

The recipes include the typical details that you would expect, ingredients, expected time, detailed directions and nutritional information for each meal (great for those monitoring what they are eating).  They are also structured to the Sonoma Diet’s portion control, which is critical for members of the diet program.</p>

<p>If you are not a member of the Sonoma Diet and wondering whether it is still useful then stop.  The recipes are attractive for anyone, whether on the diet or not and the book is simply a standard recipe book that requires no pre-requisites at all.  You should just consider whether or not the serving sizes are sufficient, as the key factor to the Sonoma Diet is reduced portions compared to those Western Cultures are generally used to.</p>

<p>There are some criticisms of the book, which I have found to have a semblance of truth.  The Sonoma Diet Cook Book certainly maintains a relatively mainstream offering of recipes and at times lacks originality.  If you are looking for a recipe book that contains unique and extremely exotic recipes then this certainly isn’t for you.  In addition it seems that while the Sonoma Diet Cook Book keeps restriction on certain foods, lowers your fat intake and portion sizes, there seems to be ignorance towards processed foods that may be considered unhealthy.</p>

<p>In concluding the Sonoma Diet Cook Book is well developed.  It fits well for those who are on the Sonoma Diet Program or considering it, and can be suitable for others who just wish to embark on a healthy eating and flavoured eating plan.  That said there are some shortcomings and it depends on exactly what you are after as to whether or not this book is for you.</p>

In order for the South-Beach Diet to work for you it needs to be followed exactly how it was designed. Furthermore, each individual South Beach-Diet that you follow needs to be tailored to your specific body. This will help you lose weight safely in a way that was meant for you.</p>

The South beach diet is very similar to the Atkins diet in that it is a low carbohydrate diet. Dr. Arthur Agatston originally designed this diet with some of his heart patients in mind. These patients had a condition called the insulin resistance syndrome, most commonly known as the metabolic syndrome. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
People with insulin resistance syndrome are people who have a combination of symptoms including high blood pressure, signs of obesity (especially in the belly), elevated blood glucose, high triglycerides, and low HDL. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
These people do not respond as well to the traditional low fat diets that contain quite a few carbohydrates. Therefore, the South-Beach Diet became the alternative. Since then it also have become a popular diet alternative for those of the general public wanting to lose weight, even if the reason is to look good in a bikini.</p>

The South Beach-Diet is divided into four phases. These four phases are as follows:</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Phase One: This phase excludes most carbohydrates including all fruit, most dairy products, and most sources of saturated fat. What you can eat during this phase of the South Beach diet include lean meats, eggs and egg whites, seafood, soy foods, fat free and low fat dairy products, one serving of beans, and low starch vegetables (carrots, broccoli, lettuce greens, leeks, cauliflower, etc.).</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
The starchier vegetables such as potatoes, corn, and peas should be avoided during this initial diet phase. This is the most rapid stage of weight loss and lasts approximately two weeks.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Phase Two: This is the stage that the dieter continues until he or she reaches desired weight loss. During this phase of the South-Beach Diet the dieter will start to add one carb a week that was disallowed during the first two weeks of the diet. Usually dieters will start with a low glycemic fruit such as berries or grapefruit during this phase, and then continue to add more and more carbs.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
This also is the phase in which the dieter tests the waters and finds foods that are a fit. If there is no negative reaction to the foods tried during this phase the dieter continues to add more and more carbs. This phase lasts until the dieter reaches the desired weight goal.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Phase Three: This is the maintenance stage of the diet. This stage is very similar to Phase Two of the South Beach-Diet. The big difference between this stage and the stage two is that in this stage, carbs are allowed to be eaten more often. Otherwise, this stage is a continuation of the previous stage, which is to just eat the foods that the dieter has defined as right for them in the previous stage.</p>

This stage of the diet lasts for the dieters lifetime and contains mostly lean proteins, fruits, whole grains, and sources of mono and polyunsaturated fats such as avocado, nuts, and olives.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
There is no cut and dry way to succeed at the South Beach Diet. However, those who are determined to make it work for them can find this diet to be a great alternative. Therefore, if you are a person who has a desire to lose weight in order to fit into that bikini you have always wanted to wear you can learn the South-Beach-Diet plan and make it work for you.</p>
